The goal of the Environmental Lung Disease Research Cluster is to enhance epidemiologic, etiologic and clinical research related to the detection, ascertainment, intervention, surveillance, and etiology of environmental and agricultural airway diseases. Currently, core investigators are engaged in research on asthma and lung cancer (in particular those related to radon, environmental tobacco smoke, and diet) as well as exploring genetic polymorphisms related to environmental lung disease. Additional areas of study include hypersensitivity pneumonitis, chronic beryllium disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and related disorders, and the role of aging in susceptibility to environmental lung disease. |
